Takeaway Cup ... Made Posh

"A cold day but ... ARRGH, too hot!"
Looking forward to my nice, warm takeaway cup of tea the other morning, to not only warm the soul but my hands too…I picked my cup up & the little blighter was so hot that I nearly dropped it, paying the price of spilling the molten liquid all over my wrist! So, sitting there & not taking it away as I couldn’t hold it I sketched this idea down on a napkin & produced it once I had returned to my studio. Now I can drink my tea with comfort & style. It’s a little posh too as I have a nice handle which allows me to point my pinky whilst sipping my tasty beverage…

Here's some eye candy of my work in their infancy.
Concepts to light up the eyes of my clients as I turn my chatter into realityPackaging2012 -
PAH ... expensive chairs for my studio, no.
Corrugated chairs please - yes ! A great way to show clients that my cardboard engineering is in fact wizardry. They work a treat ... the heaviest person I could find (who will NOT be named, ha) is 100kg and the chair didn't flinch a bit. Brilliant.
Hey, they look pretty snazzy too right ?Packaging2012 -
Creating & developing this rad little concept, I now have my iPhone sitting nicely on my desk while I'm busy designing.
Completely secure & flush, this pack allows me to listen to music & even charge the phone at the same time with some smart little cut-outs & allowances made whilst on display. I designed this purely because I knew it would look amazing & also to prove that packaging engineering should not just be shelved as "box making"Packaging, Industrial Design2011 -
Making a giant 6 foot Stella bottle
Material: EB Flute: Knowing that this needed to stand sturdy I Locked the 2 pieces of board (bottles) together top & bottom & developed a strong, square support for the base. With the graphics bringing it to life…job done. This was used throughout supermarkets & liquor stores nationwide around the UK.Packaging, Branding2011 -
Rob the robot here was becomming a little dusty so I decided to make his own package. Shaping the cut-out in the fitment made it easy to hold Rob securely & have him visable though a nifty window at the front of the box…Now for space aliens & galaxy artwork...!Packaging, Industrial Design, Product Design2011 -
As part of a team I had a hand in creating this innovative looking display with a mixture of fluted material & display board used to have it look spectacular, and 3 dimensional. With x10 toothbrushes per shelf, a total of 90 were displayed at once.Packaging, Branding2011 -
A large floor standing window display. Designed with a huge print face and helped to stand with a square rolled strut glued to the back with a 30 degree angle to sit it back slightly.Packaging, Print Design2011 -
The studio needed some nature ..... so ..... I made some!Packaging2012 -
If you are one of the lucky agencies that I have chosen to contact, keep your eyes out for one of these in the post…
With my business card held in place with some sleek little curves, the inner slider clicks into place with a return flap stopping it from pulling fully out. It creates a nice, slide in, slide out feel. Just fold the tab in the back & it’s postable.
My business card then makes into a cool little box so the client is already engaged in my ninja packaging skills right from the start…Packaging, Advertising, Industrial Design2011 -
Just did a run of these nifty pop up boxes for ultimate "POW" for the Crombie Lockwood (NZ) Ltd marketing team.

This design is sharp and sleek and allows all of the guitar to be viewed at once. Designed so the music store manager could put these displays together themselves and display in the window. They were delivered in flat pack form with photographed instructions to allow for speedy & easy make up. They were also custom printed to suit the various Yamaha stockists.Packaging, Branding2011 -
Peanuts on the bar is a dying art .... push em' off and get some proper crisps on there!Packaging2012 -
Okay ... So I broke my cassette on my back wheel, damn it!
Needing to get it fixed I carried my wheel to the studio, not realising that it was going to leave my hand permanently marked with grease & grime for the entire day! So .... taking it to the bike shop I thought I'd fashion a little concept to stop my lovely hands resembling a mechanics this time by fashioning a nifty little handle device. Simply slipping it through the spokes & butting up to create a comfy handle - hey presto ... the perfect answer!Packaging, Industrial Design2011 -
As part of a team I had a hand in creating this great display to hold as many products as possible & using moulded fitments supplied by the client. Once filled, this display would be hard to walk by without stopping & having a look at the new Garnier product.Packaging, Branding2011 -
I was lucky enough to receive a new chalkboard from the guys at CHALKD - just because they're a good bunch! They advised me that it would make a great Christmas present from Nelson NZ as I'm travelling overseas this year to visit my family in my old stomping ground - the UK.
What a great idea I thought .... Me being me though, I couldn't just wrap it in bad quality 30gsm wrapping paper imported from goodness knows where, I had to made it a package. So.....looking around my studio I saw some old "B" Flute sitting there that was used for a strengthener with some cartonboard that was delivered to me. Using the shape of the fancy item to hold itself in place this is a great concept not only to show off this wicked chalkboard but to demonstrate how to recycle old material lying around - awesome!Packaging, Industrial Design2011 -
So....
Having made these nifty business cards that pop into a box, I was driving to visit a client and realised I had already passed them one of my cards. It sits nicely on their desk holding various office gubbins which is great but I thought I'd do something different again so I fashioned my cards to hang in their car just like fluffy dice!
Structural package design is awesome!Packaging, Advertising, Branding2011 -

Using a double wall base & lid style pack with some nicely shaped finger holes to lift of the lid, this pack will not only look amazing once it’s branded, we also developed a display stand from the excess cardboard which is self make up & allows the pack to lean back on an angle perfectly for display!Packaging2011 -
To design & create a concept sample of a ‘real estate’ style promo pack.
Ray White pride themselves on delivering outstanding service & were seeking something fresh & creative to pass to their client after an appraisal or even better - the sale of their house. After a nice cup of tea we decided that a house shaped carton would fit the bill nicely & designed the concept to fit the clients new set of house keys & a rather nice voucher for a stunning local restaurant.
